Meet our people : Dahlia El Gazzar of DAHLIA+ Agency
She’ll be driving some great conversations across our social channels (follow @EventTechWomen on Twitter too) and celebrating the WIET movement with face-to-face meet ups where ever she’s presenting. Welcome Dahlia! 🎉
And of course it’s only fitting that her first task is to share her own answers in our Q&A series. Take it away Dahlia -
Hello, I’m Dahlia. I’m a Tech Therapist, Idea Igniteur, Netweaver and Events Addict. I love helping Event Profs with social media, productivity and creating life habits. My mission is to untether the busy professional from their desktop and office and enable them to be more efficient and productive working from a beach in Mexico [umbrella drink in hand] through their mobile device utilizing smart solutions and apps. Essentially…. I want you to break the status quo and #getshiftdone!
I have more than a decade of experience in the meetings and events sector, working on both the professional planning side and as an association collaborator. I was recently honoured to be featured in Smart Meetings magazine 2017 and 2018 Top 100 smartest women in the meetings industry who inspire us.
DAHLIA+ Agency works with a wide range of meeting and event professionals who want to lead the next generation of bringing people together. Whether you’re a veteran planner or supplier, an emerging event-repreneur, or a destination looking to stand out on the map, DAHLIA+ puts you, your organization and your message under the microscope to determine how you can stay ahead of the curve.
Q. What do you love about event tech?
A. What I love about event tech is that it gives us so much potential to create mindstamping experiences when it comes not only to events, but also for internal teams. More importantly if used right, you truly get to know who your audience is all about. Tapping into their likes/dislikes, getting into their minds to see what they want more of when it comes to content, experiences, and who they want to network with - that is all so powerful. And the most important reason I love event tech is that it forces you to step out of your comfort zone. How do you top that?
Q. How can women make an impact in the event tech space?
A. Our intuition is super strong. And to combine that with extreme desire to change a process, or design an event with specific intentions [@tahiracreates says it best in her book], we can create an amazing impact in the event space. I see WIET as the forum or spot where women who have ideas bubbling up in their minds, or innovative ways they've used tech for a better outcome, or just to use each other as soundboards on how they can take do better - that is needed in our industry. We need to start rallying up women that want to make a difference by using tech in innovative ways.
Q. What are some of your personal favourite tools/brands/products/biz?
A. Tools that simplify, platforms that create collaborative spaces for your teams, apps that help you get to information quicker, and tech that helps you analyze your audience more efficiently.
Q. Who do you most admire in event tech?
A. I admire those that are ahead of their time or the industry is not ready for them yet. We have some great women that are forging the road for many more. I know #womeineventtech that you listen to what they got to say, or show, and you just are floored. You just say 'wow'. Time to share the 'wow'.
Q. What's your one piece of advice to other women in event tech?
A. Ship it - as Seth Godin says. Don't sit on that napkin sketch, or that biz plan that you roughly put together in the middle of the night. Get out there, bounce the idea by someone, work with someone to make it real. If you are passionate about it, and if you don't see it come to life, you won't be satisfied until you see it through. Kill the idea of it having to be perfect. Focusing on whether it will fail or success is not the point. Ship it!
Q. Favourite quote?
A. 'Act as if it were impossible to fail' - Dorothea Brande
